WHO WE ARE

As every one knows that the State of Odisha was continuously facing various natural disasters, hunger and poverty. Odisha is also very richly endowed with various mineral, forest and marine resources. India’s topmost IT consulting firms have also established their development centres in Odisha. The top most power, steel and aluminium plants are operated in Odisha. Our GDP has grown by a stunning 8.74% but the fact is still majority of the Odisha people are very poorer than African countries like Kenya, Republic of Congo, Zambia and Zimbabwe. In poverty, Odisha is worse than Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The level of malnutrition in Odisha is also quite high. Over 40 per cent of children are severely malnourished. Due to malnutrition millions of children are dying every year. As per the latest survey, 40.7 % under age of 3 are underweight, about 65 % of children aged between 6 and 35 months are anemic. Almost 85% percent of people live in the rural areas of the state. The population belongs to Scheduled Tribe (ST) is 22.1 % and the Scheduled Caste (SC) is 16.5 % of the total population of the State. Among 95% people are living in the rural areas and in the forest. These people are extremely poor, they don’t have land to cultivate due to draught and bad irrigation. Unemployment, illiterate and lack of awareness is one of the major problem in the State. Odisha Government has done many plans for them like MGNREGA, built homes, given rice at Rs.2/kg etc.Proper effort has not been made to reach these Government plans to these people. Due severe poverty maximum are migrating to the cities and other places both in and outside State in search employment.Lack of awareness and uneducation they don’t even know about Government plans. Most of them are living in slum areas or temporary homes, where there are not getting safe drinking water and sanitation. Situation of children of them are very painful. Maximum children of are illiterate and severely malnourished.

UPKAR is a Regd. and Non Govt. organization has started to serve free nutritious meal to these unprivileged children. We have provided relief material to the victims of recent floods, such as foods and support to reconstruct their houses and also helped them to rebuild their livelihoods and give impulses for the recovery of community life. We have a good network of youth Dedicated volunteer. Our volunteer works from heart and soul. Their presence and noble participation encourage us to do more and more.

UPKAR aims to serve the free nutritious meal and free education to the people of tribal districts in Odisha in first phase and in second phase all districts of Odisha. Our aim is to ensure that no child is dying by malnutrition and hungry. In the absence of education, they are unable to take advantages of facilities provided for them by the Government. Through our free Nutritious meal programmes, we will create a massive awareness about the importance of literacy for better understanding of life situation, family planning, improve the standard of life and bring awareness about developmental Programmes by the Government for them.We also have a future plan to do health camps in the tribal areas and run a mobile clinic for them. Our aim is also to have a huge plantation by using fly ash and save environment.
